If I’m not mistaken the first 2 Toy Story films were re-rendered for the 3D release. There have been a few times animated movies have been re-rendered. Remember, they render in 2K, which means a 4K render would logically take twice the amount of time.for a difference that is so minute you really wouldn’t notice it. A single frame takes up to a day to render. They are much more advanced in terms of lighting, detail, and effects. That’s just about it.īut, the biggest kicker is rendering times. The real difference is really down to color, both in saturation and shadows. Also, 4K is 4 times the pixels of 2K, but that wouldn’t matter if you were rendering Shrek 2 in 2018. In fact, as someone who regularly reads reviews of these things, I simply don’t buy animated films in 4K because the difference is just so minute. I would agree that there’s not much detail to gain with a 4K version of an animated movie, especially one that doesn’t have a film negative. The problem is that even a 1080p upscale (purely through a blu-ray player connected to a 4K TV) has a very minuscule difference in terms of detail. Most CGI animated films are rendered in 2K and recent (although rare) 4K releases so far, are just upscales. Ocrmoduleversion 0.0.
